Right Nostril Breathing (Isolated Sympathetic)
A unilateral breathing technique that isolates airflow to the right nostril to stimulate the sympathetic nervous system. It rapidly increases alertness, heart rate, and metabolic activity, making it ideal for combating fatigue and brain fog.
- 1Sit in a comfortable, upright position with your spine straight and shoulders relaxed.
- 2Raise your right hand and use your right ring finger or thumb to gently close your left nostril.
- 3Inhale slowly and deeply through your right nostril only.
- 4Exhale smoothly and completely through the same right nostril.
- 5Continue this continuous cycle of right-nostril-only breathing for 3 to 5 minutes, maintaining a steady rhythm.
Breathing exclusively through the right nostril stimulates the left hemisphere of the brain and activates the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system. This unilateral airflow increases heart rate, oxygen consumption, and systolic blood pressure, promoting a state of alertness, thermogenesis, and cognitive arousal while temporarily suppressing parasympathetic tone.
