Step-by-Step Guide
  1. 1Sit or lie down comfortably, closing your lips gently to form a seal.
  2. 2Swallow to create a slight vacuum, placing the entire surface of your tongue (tip, middle, and back) flat against the roof of your mouth.
  3. 3Ensure your teeth are lightly touching or slightly apart, but your lips remain sealed.
  4. 4Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for 4 seconds, drawing air deep into your diaphragm.
  5. 5Exhale smoothly through your nose for 6 seconds, maintaining the tongue posture and lip seal.
  6. 6Repeat this cycle, focusing on keeping the airway open and the tongue engaged against the palate.
Physiological Mechanisms

By resting the entire tongue against the hard palate and maintaining a lip seal, this technique engages the genioglossus and other oropharyngeal muscles, preventing the tongue from collapsing backward into the airway during sleep. Combined with slow nasal breathing, it increases nitric oxide absorption, improves upper airway dilator muscle tone, and reduces the Bernoulli effect that causes tissue vibration (snoring) and airway collapse (apnea).
